Description : In Peru the office of the Intermediate Technology Development Group (United Kingdom) for Latin América. Just like other databases mantained by member countries of LA RED , the Peruan base has been fed in diverse stages. The greatest volume of information was analized in the framework of the original proyect of LA RED- Inventories of Disasters in Latin America- and has been complemented and refined with the proyect IAI - LA RED - Disaster Risk Management in Latin América ENSO. The Peru DesInventar was build from two types of sources, the first one based on newspaper archives archives included the inspection of 11 newspapers of national circulation, although the mayor part of the information comes from EL Comercio newspaper. The second one, of official character, based on the statistical anuaries published by the National Institute of Civil Defense -INDECI (years 1994 - 1996). The database has deficiencies in 1990 and in 1992 due to difficulties in accessing the source- El Comercio daily newspaper.

Reports are distributed widely throughout the country, with an emphasis in the city of Lima. The most frecuent reports are due to floods, alluvium, rain and slidings.

Description : Due to the seism that occured on June 23 , 2001 in the south region of Peru, the Office of the Resident Coordinator of the United Nations in Peru, in agreement with the governmet of Peru and having the support of the Emergency Response Division (ERD) of the United Nations program for Development (PNUD), organized an interagency Mission with the purpose of formuling a Strategic Framework for Sustainable Recuperation and Vulnerability reduction in the affected zone.
One of the activities of the mission was to make an analisis over damage and effects caused by disasters occured before the seism, so that an image of the risk in the zone could be viewed. For those purposes, information concerning the zone under study was extracted from the National Peru DesInventar Database (ITDG-LA RED). This information was submitted to refinement. See also the database caused by the seism: South Peru Database.
