Database in DesInventar format
|
| Description : |
DesInventar began to be used in a systematic way in the middle of year 1996 by the National System for Civil Protection -SINAPROC and ever since this entity has built a database daily and almost in real time, on the occurrence of disasters in all the national territory. The valuable information given by Desinventar has served as a base to guide new proyects that SINAPROC and other institutions have been developing arround disaster effect mitigation, preparation and prevention, among others;
1)OEA-ECHO-SINAPROC proyect of vulnerability reduction, floods and local alert systems.
2) BID-SINAPROC mitigation in zones of high vulnerability , floods, soil slidings in Panama (MIZAV). In which the information stored in the database following the DesInventar methodology, has helped to identify the great vulnerability of the country at floods and slidings, so that resources and efforts can be prioritized and focalized to work for the mitigation by poblation of these two threats. It also helped the proyect BID-SINAPROC with valuable information to strengthen communitary organization so that the effects caused by the Mitch hurrycane could be reduced in the Province of Darien. On the other hand it allows SINAPROC to have updated statistics about disaster occurrence and it serves as a base for the design and follow-up of the planning for disaster prevention.
The database has two parts:
-Daily Inventory. The source of information is the SINAPROC (general head office and branches);in some cases the information is complemented with data provided by the Police, Mayor's Office and the Red Cross.
-Retrospective inventory. The proyect for the systematization of the period 1990-1995 initialized in 2002.
