In Costa Rica the Latin American Social Sciences Faculty (general head office) has mantained since 1996 a disaster report database that was born with the original proyect of LA RED- Disaster Inventories in latin América - FLACSO recently complemented its database in the framework of the investigation proyect IAI - LA RED, Disaster risk Management in Latin America, proyect that covers 8 countries of the American Country.
The information sources are mainly newspaper archives.
Besides this, the inventory has had the support of the National Emergency Comission (CNE) that has given newspaper archive information since 1996, so as data from their routine operations. The information source for epidemies is also official, provided by the Health Ministry of Health.
