The data import makes possible to enter information to a DesInventar database from external sources or from other DesInventar databases.
|
To import the data you have in any version of Excel or another calculus sheet , you may use the option -Archive-- save as- and select CSV format (Text separated by commas). Then select your archive from the import data from text option in DesInventar. For more details look in the section called “ Importing data from text ”.

Before making level importation it is appropriate that you know the format used by DesInventar, this information is inthe section called “ Geographical Level Administration ”.
The import of levels consists of entering the information of levels 0,1, and 2 from a text archive to the database currently open. For this purpose you have to know which level is the one to be imported.
The process of level importation is:
1.Select the text archive that contains the information on the level to be imported. This archive has to have at least a code and a name for each item in that level. Once the archive has been read, the first row of data will be shown. If it doesn't, verify the format of the selected archive.
Indicate which is the level you are going to import( level 0,1 or 2). If you are going to import a level that is not defined, you need first to define it in the section called “ Geographical Level Administration ”.
If the selected level is the first one(level 0), the only request will be for information for this level. In any other case the request will also be for information of the inmediate superior level.
You need to increase the position indicators in the information corresponding to the level to be imported. First for the code in the 'position of the code' label and then in length in the 'Length of the code' label. In the lower part of the screen two red hyphens will be displaced showing the solicited range. A similar process should be effectuated for field name, but with blue hyphens.
If another level different from 0 has been selected, the father level will also request the positional range for the code, indicated by green hyphens.

The importation of records from another DesInventar copies a group of records from another database of DesInventar to the currently open database. The import options are:
Import everything: Imports all the records of the basic record and the extended one.
From the serial number: You may indicate the serial number until which the import goes. If you mark the option last you will select as final value the last serial number of the database to be imported.

Importing records from plane archives. It permits to enter records from text archives and CVS (separated by commas) or other plane formats with separation marks to differentiate the fields.
To import data to your DesInventar database you must have it open and select the plane archive that you want to import. The default option that appears is ?separated by commas?, which uses commas to separate the fields.
In the lower right part there is a selection list that contains the fields of the basic record and those of the extended record. Select only the fields that you have in your text archive, if it has all the fields press the ALL button to mark the whole list. Next, verify the order of the variables according to the header of each column, in the lower left box with the first scores of your archive.
As import options, you can ignore a determined number of rows, which will not be entered.
