[Workshop] (September 5 and 6 of 2003)The DesInventar training workshop was carried out in the city of San Juan de Pasto on september 5 and 6 of 2003 in the framework of the agreement between the Seismological Observatory of the Southwest (OSSO) and the University of Nariño-UDENAR, at the university facilities.
[DATABASE] (September 09 of 2003)The updated version of the Mexico database was uploaded to the DesInventar website. It was updated in the framework of the proyect IAI-LA RED Disaster Risk Management ENSO in Latin America. The base, mantained by CIESAS since 1996, was updated with information for the years 1972-1975 and 1980, after which the base totaled a number of 7.742 reports.
[SOFTWARE] (Sep 04, 2003)The following files are available: - DesInventar Update Installer (which includes the DesInventar and DesConsultar modules), this is for registered users of DesInventar and requires a previous version of DesInventar installed on the target machine. - DesConsultar Full Installer, this is the complete install for DesConsultar and should replace any previous version of DesConsultar you were using. Anyone can download and use this product for free. DesInventar 6.2.8 - The official Causes list were updated in order to reflect the changes introduced by the updated revision of the Methodological Guide to DesInventar. - The methods for doing modifications to Geography Levels, Events and Causes were revised so any changes are now immediately reflected on the program and databases. - Improved usability of the DesInventar modules when using "Limited Accounts" on WindowsXP - Bug #243. Fixed a bug in the user interface of the geographic levels import procedure - Bug #238. Fixed a small bug related to the selection of geographic levels in queries.
[Workshop] (July 24 and 25 of 2003)DesInventar training workshop in Cali, Colombia. A training workshop on Desinventar was carried out in the city of Cali in Colombia on July 24 and 25. It aimed at new users also having the purpose of strenghthening the methodology employed by active users.
[WEBSITE] (July 30, 2003)Along with the development of DesInventar 6.X we have reviewed the methodological and conceptual guide of DesInventar, reorganizing it and attempting to make it more user-friendly. The Guide has been updated and has new events and causes which have been included in accordance to the extension of the project to Chile, La Florida (USA), India and Nepal. The English version will be available in a few weeks.

[SOFTWARE] (May 12 of 2003)The Social Studies Network for Disaster Prevention is delighted to inform that since April 2003 the version 6. of DesInventar is available for our users. This new version constitutes a significant advance regarding the versions that our users have been employing up to now. Most of the changes, especially the transcendental ones, are not visible for the user. The revision and improvement of all the subroutines, processes that were accompanied by a constant inspection of the software functioning, improved the stability of the program. For a list and description of the improvements you can view the document: Welcome to DesInventar 6: changes and improvements. . For the migration of previous versions, for example from the version 5.4.1, to the new version 6.2.4, it is indispensable that you follow the instructions available in the web page in the document: Migration of DesInventar: version 5 to version 6 . To have a better control and response to possible operation errors that our users may have while they are using the software, we have activated a system through the internet, known as Bugzilla. For information on how to use it and how to register go to the document: Reporting errors. . At last, it pleases us to inform that we have created a users list through which we will maintain our users informed of the last versions of DesInventar, and of the mechanisms to access them. [PUBLICATION] (March 07, 2003)The Mexican group of the Center of Investigations and Superior Studies on Social Anthropology - CIESAS presents a synthesis of preliminary results in the topic of water shortage in Mexico between the years 1970 and 2001, in the framework of the project IAI - LARED about "Disaster Risk Management ENSO in Latin America" which is currently being developed in eight countries of the latinamerican region: Argentina, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Peru, Mexico, Brazil and the State of Florida in USA. This being done through the analysis of DesInventar Mexico database which includes reports of droughts, forest fires and heat waves.
[PROJECTS] (January 27 of 2003)The "Disaster database comparative analysis" report is available. The study was completed by LA RED and OSSO, by means of contract with The United Nations Program for Development.
[MISSION] (January 17 of 2003)La Red participated with a presentation in the Plenary Session of the Conference about Challenges and Perspectives of the Use of GLIDE in National and Regional Level Disaster Inventories, as well as the active participation in the sub-workshop "Accumulation and Sharing of Disaster Information and Impact Assessments: by Use of GLIDE (GLobal unique disaster IDEntifier)" held the afternoon of 17 January. |
